Craig Lowndes Latest News

Craig Lowndes stormed to a pair of dominant wins in the latest round of the V8 Supercar Championship at Symmons Plains, Tasmania on the weekend.

In an impressive display of pace, Craig took pole position for all three races, winning both Saturday sprints to take his all-time record tally of Championship race victories to 99.
A first corner clash at the start of Sunday’s longer race saw Craig penalised, dropping to the rear of the field before driving back through to sixth.
“Great weekend for us, we worked really hard on Friday to get the car sorted and we had a great car all weekend,” Craig Lowndes said.
“The two wins were great reward but I'm gutted about the final race because the car speed we had, we could have at least stood on the podium, you'd think that we could have been on the top step.
“But now we're into a break and we'll move onto the Perth round, which is another track that I really enjoy.
“I'm looking forward to getting up there and seeing if we can get that 100th win."

  •  2 x practice sessions
  • 1st session wet track, Craig 11th
  • 2nd session dry, Craig 3rd

“We were just trying some things today. The car wasn't pretty into turns one and six, which is where we went off, plus the oil into four made things tricky. We weren't too stressed as the car's good and fast when you put the sectors together. The tyres for the last run were used, but in good nick, so it's encouraging being the fastest car on hard tyres today. The car was nice but when you're pushing the limits round here it's very easy to go over the line. It was frustrating, hitting oil wasn't where I wanted to be, but it's the way it is sometimes when you're pushing the limits."

  • Craig 2nd fastest in practice
  • Craig qualifies 1st for Race 4, leads from start to finish
  • Craig qualifies 1st for Race 5, leads from start to finish
  • Now on 99 career Championship race wins

"It's obviously been a fantastic day clocking up 99 wins. I'm thankful that I've been around long enough to get to that number. The car was working extremely well. The second race wasn't quite as nice as Race One but it's still been a really nice car to drive. It's been a great day and it's fantastic that it's all come together. It's always nice when you come to this track and have great car speed when you're at the front. Tomorrow's race is 200km, which is a long way around this tight track and strategy will play a big part. Hopefully both Red Bull cars will have good speed and strategy."

  • Craig 6th in Practice
  • Craig qualifies 1st
  • 1st corner clash results in penalty, drops to tail of the field
  • Drive back through the field to 6th

“We had good car pace today. I think that the disappointing part was obviously the start when I had contact with David Reynolds and received a drive through penalty, but we managed to recover to sixth, which was a great result considering.”
